Great story about my high school’s football team

One of my Facebook friends from high school found and posted this article from the Charlotte Observer. The article talks about my high school’s recent football success and their overall impact on the town… http://www.charlotteobserver.com/preps/story/1052870.html

The move begins today

Today begins the moving process as we begin moving some of our non-essential stuff into the new house for storage.  We have cleared out mostly the things Peyton has outgrown and those will begin moving along with some of the things from our garage which we have been storing there.  We’ll see how this progresses, but we plan to be completely out of our house on Friday.

We also need to send out an email with our new, temporary address to everyone.  If you’d like it, please send us an email – philip dot sellers at gmail.com or sunluv72 at yahoo.com.

New theme for the blog

I just added a new theme for the blog.  Its pretty nice from WooThemes.  Check it out…

Photo gallery & video gallery changes

A while back, I announced that we removed our personal photo gallery for security and privacy reasons. I’ve since been using Picasa’s Web Gallery provided by Google. I’m happy with a lot of their features, including facial recognition and grouping. As a matter of fact, the facial recognition works better than the one built into iPhoto… (that’s a topic for my other blog).  After playing around with other solutions, I really like using Picasa’s web gallery.  I have found a way to upload directly from iPhoto and so that’s where all our family photos will be.  There are lots of galleries, but most are private.  If you want to receive updates from me, send me an email – philip.sellers at gmail.com – and I’ll add you so you receive photos when I send them out.

And because I’ve chosen to put all the photos out there, I’ve decided to use the MobileMe gallery for videos.  I got a lot of feedback that the MobileMe photo galleries didn’t work so well, so I abandoned it for that, but I think the way it does videos and the fact that it integrates so well with my iMovie software, I’m going to continue to post my videos there.  I’ll also be uploading them to YouTube – but the MobileMe gallery will have better quality copies.  I hope to buy a new hard-disk based HD video camera soon – maybe for Christmas if all works out.

March update

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update over here. I’ve been trying to keep up with things on my tech blog and unfortunately, I’ve left the personal blog out in the cold.

All is going well in Conway, SC, and everyone is well. The days are warming up – been in the 70′s and 80′s this week. Flowers are starting to bloom and spring is almost here.

Peyton is growing up fast. She’s very social and loves getting to play with her friends at daycare, church and anywhere else. Right now, she is on a kick to keep her fingernails painted. It is her and her mommy’s project at night after bath time. She recently visited the circus and had a blast. She was still talking about it so much that we bought tickets to to back again this weekend in Columbia. She loves the elephants.

She has been busy learning colors, numbers and the alphabet at daycare. She is very intelligent! They are also teaching the kids songs and Peyton loves to seranade us in the car while we drive.

Jen is finishing her fourth class in get masters program this week. She has done a great job and her grades ate outstanding. She is working on a Masters in Environental Science from Denver University online. She was able to visit campus while I was in Colorado Springs for a class for my job in November.

Work for both of us is stable and still going good. Jen, like all county employees, had to take a 2% pay cut this fiscal year, but that also meant no one lost their jobs either. She still enjoys teaching kids and the public about recycling. My job continues to be challenging and rewarding. I’m enjoying my projects and the new things I’m learning.

New developments

As we are nearing Christmas, we have a lot of things going on in the Sellers family.  The biggest news will close this afternoon…  Jen and I are buying land.  We don’t have any immediate plans for the land, but we are going to hold on to it and  hopefully build our dream home on it in a few years.  But, we have to wait for the market to come back and find the correct time to sell the house we are in.

The land buying process has been almost a year and a half in the making.  We had been looking casually for land for about a year even before that, but around September of 2007, we found an 1.75 acres that we were really interested in.  It was near good friends of ours (psuedo-family) and it was enough land that we were happy, but not too much that we’d would be overwhelmed taking care of it…  The area was very nice and it was the last lot in the group to be built on – so the area is as developed as it should ever be.

After negotiating for a few months with the builder who were selling it as a land/home package, we could never come to an agreement on the home and the price for the custom build.  So, we made an offer for land-only for what we believed the land was worth.  The owners wanted more but we were unwilling and walked away.  Fast-forward to October of this year and the land was for sale as land-only, and for much less than they had previously thought the land was worth.  We made an offer again for the same amount and this time it was accepted.  Thank you sucky economy for something…

Anyways, we close this afternoon on the lot.  Afterwards, Jen and I are going to drive out there and take a couple pictures of the land and of us on our land.  Then we’re treating ourselves to the Right Recipe for dinner as a celebration…

Once we build, our address will officially change from Conway, SC, to Loris, SC.  And, its much more peaceful out in the country.  Its so quiet…  I absolutely love it and I’m so very excited about this.  Jen is, too.
